This unit is designed for students who have passed HSC Chinese for Background Speakers or who have a similar level of knowledge of Chinese. The unit provides a general overview of traditional Chinese culture and society. Special emphasis is given to the origins and development of Chinese writing, philosophy, religion and literature. The unit format is composed of lectures and tutorials. There will be also some screening of relevant documentaries. Students are expected to read materials on the relevant topics in both Chinese and English although class discussions will be mainly in Chinese. -- Course Website
