Egyptian Wall Scenes: Painting and Relief

The unit has two objectives; the first is to introduce students to the fundamental principles of two-dimensional Egyptian art as well as to the methods and techniques employed by the Egyptian artist/s. The second objective is to analyse the varied themes present in Egyptian tombs and temples to identify the continuity and changes in Egyptian artistic traditions. The unit will be based on research seminar presentations, group discussion and examination of specific examples of wall reliefs and paintings from the Early Dynastic period to the end of the Pharaonic era. -- Course Website
