Egypt in the Old Kingdom

The unit will examine the archaeological remains of the Egyptian Old Kingdom period from different sites. Art, architecture and material culture from funerary contexts will also be examined. Special emphasis will be given to understanding the administrative system and the daily life of the Egyptians in the period. A study of the important texts of the period in the original language will be undertaken and these include the Westcar Papyrus and the biography of Wen. -- Course Website
