The age of Constantine was a watershed in European history; this unit traces developments in politics, religion and literature from the fourth to the mid-sixth centuries in the Eastern and Western portions of the Roman empire. Major themes include: historiography; church/state relations; and the role of women in society. The unit also provides an introduction to studies in Medieval and Byzantine history. -- Course Website
