This unit provides an overview of the objectives of regulation and outlines both the traditional and alternative approaches to meeting these objectives. The issues of regulatory architecture and consolidated regulation are also examined at length. It outlines and explains the regulatory powers implied by the core principles enunciated by Basel, IAIS, IPOS and IOSCO as well as the ideal set of regulatory powers, and how regulatory powers are defined in law. The unit also reviews regulatory oversight and funding, placing particular emphasis on matters relating to independence, accountability and governance. It explains the methods of measuring regulatory capital and assessing its adequacy. -- Course Website
