This course considers popular fiction in the light of new theories and methodologies developed in cultural, media and text production studies. The principle focus will be on works of contemporary popular fiction and film in contemporary crime, romance and speculative fiction genres. In addition to the study of written and filmed works, the course provides an introduction to techniques of creative writing within popular fiction genres.
