This course focusses on the ways in which popular music is written about in contemporary media. It examines a range of writing styles such as popular journalism, cultural websites and blogs and analyses different modes and themes that are recurrent in popular music discourse. The purpose of the course is to develop students' capacities to write about popular music and understand the complex development of the field in contemporary cultural organisation. This is a second-level writing course suitable for students in the Creative Writing and Literature major, and the Film and Media and Journalism disciplines.
