This unit aims to provide a high level of designerly thinking regarding the foundations of the skill and knowledge base related to urban design. Students will be introduced to a range of processes applied to the analysis and synthesis of the urban environment. On completion of the unit students should be able to understand the urban condition through scale, built form, land-use and movement; have an appreciation for determining when a more innovative design might fit; develop an ability to distinguish between well designed projects and poor design, and, through an awareness of precedent, develop an appreciation for how contemporary design solutions can be adopted in a historical context. -- Course Website
