This unit focuses on the technologies used in constructing a modern network and the routing used within those networks to ensure that data is delivered. In this unit students will learn about the number systems and the mathematics of networks, networking media including installation and testing, cabling of LANs and WANs, operation of Ethernet/IEEE 802 networks, fundamental concepts of switching and routing, subnetting and the TCP/IP model. Students will undertake a study of static routing and dynamic routing protocols.
