This unit covers the basic principles of magnetic circuits, single phase and three phase transformers, real and reactive power, and principle of rotating electric machines. Topics addressed in this unit include: switching behaviour of controlled rectifier, DC-AC inverter circuits, DC-DC boost and buck converters, PWM DC-DC converter drive, four quadrant converter for DC machines, rotating electromagnetic waves in AC machines, synchronous machines, variable voltage-frequency control for induction machine, current and variable frequency supply, equivalent circuit of machines, torque-speed characteristics and drive system design, dynamic and regenerative braking of machines. -- Course Website
