The areas covered in this unit will include: Basic concepts used in power system analysis, i.e.: complex power, power factor, three-phase circuits, balanced three-phase power, per-unit system. Transformer theories that include working principle of power transformer, equivalent circuit, performance, auto-transformers, three-phase transformer connections. Electrical generation, distribution and transmission system . Introduction to power electronics that includes power semiconductor diodes, rectifiers, power transistors, thyristor, switching of power electrical circuits, AC-DC, DC-AC, and DC-DC conversions. The students will also be involved in a project on power generation design. -- Course Website
