The purpose of this unit is to develop an understanding of the processes of dispute management, with a particular focus on ‘alternative’ or ‘appropriate dispute resolution’ [‘ADR’]. Students will be encouraged to consider the difference between (i) dispute avoidance and (ii) dispute management through developing knowledge and understanding of a number of related strategies such as negotiation, mediation, conciliation and arbitration. Students will also be encouraged to develop an awareness of their own personal styles of communication and dispute management, including the values, attitudes and culture they bring to the resolution of conflict and disputes. -- Course Website
