This unit aims to give students an understanding of the statutory protection of intellectual property in Australia. The unit seeks to provide a broad introduction to this area of law, dealing with each of its principal components. Students will learn to recognise the kinds of intellectual endeavour that can be protected, the forms protection can take, the prerequisites to gaining protection and the means of enforcing breaches. Topics include: the development of and rationales for intellectual property rights; copyrights and designs; patents; trademarks; and enforcement and remedies. -- Course Website
