The unit examines legal regulation of online conduct and communications, and considers whether, and if so, to what degree, new regulatory paradigms are required to deal with the unique features of the online environment. In particular the unit will cover: the nature of the Internet and the World Wide Web; the challenges of protecting intellectual property in cyberspace; online contracting and consumer protection; privacy and security threats posed by the new information technologies and responses to those threats, both legal and technical; internet content regulation; online defamation.
