The unit introduces students to the major areas of tort law. It is intended to convey an appreciation of the principles and policies involved in tort law and to study those areas of tort law which are most commonly relied upon in practice. The unit covers both common law principles and the statutory tort reforms. The syllabus includes an introduction to the nature and range of tort liability; intentional interference to the person and land; negligence; nuisance; breach of statutory duty, vicarious liability; actions arising out of the death of another person; remedies.
