This unit will provide students with an understanding of human nutrient requirements and how these are met through the digestion, absorption and metabolism of food. Content covers the major macronutrients of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins; nutrient transport and storage; energy use by the human body, and control of energy balance. The importance of micronutrients in normal cell functioning; building bones; allowing enzymes, muscles and nerves to function and water balance and electrolyte regulation will be covered with attention paid to the health consequences of micronutrient deficiencies.Assessment -- Course Website
