Criminology and Psychology have a longstanding history of disciplinary intersections. Psychological theories of criminal behaviour have fuelled considerable interest in criminology while in turn the quest to ‘understand the mind of the criminal’ has been of significant interest in popular culture. In terms of understanding offenders, psychological theories have contributed key perspectives on individual motivations and meanings, the effects of group dynamics and contextual contingencies and the ways in which offenders deal with their offending behaviour.
