The focus of this unit is community development in practice. Students examine the sites of community development, the processes through which community development take place and the skills required for effective community development work. The question of how, in concrete terms, the energy and momentum of community development can address the problems of society will be discussed. Emphasis is placed on how community development skills can be articulated and developed in ways that facilitate the empowerment of communities to take control of and responsibility for their own development.
