Difficulty Level

This unit examines the specific roles that the cultural and communication industries have played and continue to play in globalisation. It introduces students to some major models of globalisation and then examines how changes in the national and international regulation of trade have enabled and enhanced the production and distribution of cultural and communicational goods and services on a global scale. The unit complements its focus on producers and regulators with an examination of the ways in which 'global' products are consumed and used at 'local' levels, with emphasis on instances of 'counter-global cultures' and some of the techniques through which they have been created.Assessment -- Course Website
