The unit enables students to explore the increasing emergence of new media technologies in the contemporary world. Students will examine issues such as the nature and impact of the internet and the ‘digital divide’; theoretical understandings of social media, digital participation and user-generated content; the implications of expanding digital entertainment industries; and the intensity and pervasiveness of the ‘Surveillance Society’.
