This subject examines the history of encounters between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, since 1788. Students will be introduced to a wide variety of such cross-cultural encounters, the different contexts in which they occurred, the way these encounters have been represented and the issues involved in studying them. The subject will focus on a number of Indigenous leaders and communities; non-Indigenous migrants, missionaries and colonial administrators.
