This unit will explore issues of food security and sustainable rural livelihoods, encompassing relevant aspects of sustainable development, environmental and resource management and conservation, and agricultural/rural production systems. Linkages between social, environmental and economic influences on development will be explored, alongside critical review of debates on population, resource scarcity, poverty, and equality. Theoretical debate will be used to inform an analysis of policy and programme responses.
