This unit will acquaint students with the theory and practice of photographic construction for print based media and equip students with an understanding of the function of photojournalism and associated critical theory. Students will be required to generate images of a publishable quality for the Western Independent. Topics covered include: introduction to digital cameras; exposure control; depth of field, shutter and motion; the lens; composition; the assignment and the photo essay; Photoshop; picture editing; the decisive moment; photography and truth; photography and war; historical perspectives. -- Course Website
