This unit introduces students to semiotics and key concepts in Literary and Cultural studies including politics of representation, social construction of categories, reader positioning and textural consumption and history as a contextually situated account of events through the case studies of “The Sixties”. This unit explores the significant idea that all representations are mediated through the specific concerns of the period in which they are produced. Students also gain an understanding of the ways in which representations of the past demonstrate the investments and anxieties of the present. -- Course Website
