This unit gives students an understanding of the significance of Surrealism within the history of twentieth-century art and its theory. It covers vision and oral definitions of Surrealism; the debate between surrealists Breton and Bataille; hallucinogenic, cryptic, calligraphic and illusionistic modes of seeing; global Surrealism; and the poetic and scientific sources of Surrealism. -- Course Website
