This unit begins with a consideration of critical thinking and critical social work perspectives that are central to the practice of social work. The components of the social work interpretive lens are then outlined with an emphasis on how students' own values and perspectives influence and inform the way they make sense of social issues and social problems. This exploration is continued into the social policy arena where responses to social issues are influenced by particular understandings of social theory.
