This unit is for students in the biological sciences and chemistry; it is a prerequisite for SCIE3325 Molecular Biology. It is taught jointly by the discipline of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the discipline of Microbiology and Immunology. The unit builds on introductory material presented in SCIE1106 Molecular Biology of the Cell. It features the regulation of gene activity in prokaryotes and eukaryotes and recombinant DNA technology including PCR, site-directed mutagenesis and cloning, plus applications in biotechnology and bioengineering. An introduction to bioinformatics is also provided. -- Course Website
