Many big problems face human societies now and will continue to do so into the future. Science plays a major role in finding solutions for these problems. In this unit students practise teamwork and communicating of scientific results. The unit teaches through four modules, reviewing four major issues in science—biodiversity loss; energy and resources; whale and fish stock conservation; and water and carbon. Students learn from the perspective of practising scientists and so are involved in data acquisition and handling of biological, chemical and physical information.
