This unit forms part of the Graduate Diploma in Neurological Rehabilitation which provides students with an opportunity to update theoretical knowledge and skills in the neurological rehabilitation of adults with acquired central and peripheral neurological disorders. The main focus of the unit is on a structured review of assessment and treatment of neuromuscular sequelae of adult-onset central nervous system disorders. This includes factors contributing to adaptive change in muscle such as weakness, increased muscle stiffness and reduced extensibility, as well the pathophysiology of abnormal muscle activation (spasticity and dystonic overactivity).
