This unit investigates the most influential body of contemporary political ideas—liberalism. Its focus is contemporary debate within liberalism, in particular that concerning the five component ideas of rights, freedom, justice, equality and democracy. In addition, the unit explores the policy implications of liberal ideas by examining contemporary debate on issues such as abortion, affirmative action, torture and drug use. -- Course Website
