This unit examines the range of contemporary economic, demographic, social and environmental issues and processes shaping the development of regional and rural areas from a geographical perspective. Drawing largely on perspectives from human geography, the unit focuses on the spatial interdependencies that characterise development processes and the promotion of a more sustainable future for regional and rural areas. As part of the unit, students are introduced to a range of quantitative and qualitative techniques that enables them to assess the structure and understand the dynamics of regional economic, social and demographic change.
