This unit builds on PHYS4418 Special Topics in Astrononomy and Astrophysics. The unit comprises lecture modules, with 18 lectures being compulsory and the remaining 18 lectures being drawn from a selection of elective modules. The unit covers a range of advanced topics in at the frontiers of astrophysics and cosmology reflecting the most recent research developments, including advanced radio astronomy techniques, cosmology active galactic nuclei, galactic dynamics and the dynamics of our Milky Way; high performance computing and computational astrophysics; astrophysical shocks; and compact objects (e.g. black holes and neutron stars). -- Course Website
