This unit provides an introduction to the basic principles of pharmacology, the branch of science that studies the effects of drugs on the human body. Topics include dose—response relationships; receptor classification; intracellular signalling; drug metabolism and distribution; clinical aspects of drug effects; structure—activity relationships; and toxicology and chemotherapy.
