This unit focuses on the detailed molecular and biochemical basis of human diseases, the mechanisms which an organism may defend itself against infections and environmental insults and the ways in which this can be assessed through laboratory tests. Students are taught by medical practitioners involved in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions, and by physicians and scientists engaged in research into disease pathogenesis. The unit is suitable for students interested in a career in clinical diagnostic laboratories or biomedical research. -- Course Website
