This unit focuses on the specific geological setting and geological controls on diverse metal systems including magmatic porphyry-epithermal-skarn, orogenic-intrusion-related-Carlin type gold, VHMS-SEDEX-MVT and Ni-sulfide-PGE-Cr-V metal systems. The objective of the unit is to develop (1) an understanding of the key geological and geochemical processes that control major metal systems and result in the formation of ore deposits; (2) skills in describing and classifying ore and hydrothermal alteration samples using transmitted and reflected light microscopy, mineral chemistry, stable and radiogenic isotopes, fluids inclusions and WR, TE, and REE geochemistry; and (3) interpretation of... -- Course Website
