This unit introduces students to the cell biology, ecology, epidemiology, pathogenesis and diagnosis of fungi and parasitic protozoans and helminths. Where appropriate, the concepts of zoonosis, opportunistic parasitism and drug resistance as well as the vectors of transmission, are discussed. Both the lecture and practical classes place a strong emphasis on the diagnostic characteristics of infectious agents and the techniques used in clinical laboratories for accurate identification of pathogens and opportunists. -- Course Website
