This seminar analyses three key themes of the pre-modern world in order to provide a deeper understanding of the medieval and early modern period. Each theme draws on a diverse range of evidence, from the literary and historical to the artistic, and is examined from differing analytical perspectives. The units aims to familiarise students with major modern and contemporary interpretative and theoretical approaches to the pre-modern European past (500–1800), including interdisciplinary approaches, through engagement with a select series of case studies drawn from a range of historical, cultural and intellectual contexts. -- Course Website
