For excellence in engineering it is essential students learn to incorporate people constraints, economics and environmental issues into design and other engineering decisions. Sustainable engineering requires taking these aspects into account in a systematic manner using engineering tools. The tools include (1) communication—both formal and interpersonal; (2) management systems (ISO 14001, 18000 and 9001); and (3) project management.
