This unit provides an introduction to practical applications of techniques commonly adopted for structural integrity analysis. The unit consists of two sections covering the fundamentals and analysis of structural failure and damage due to corrosion, fracture and fatigue. Topics covered in section 1 include fundamentals of engineering corrosion, testing methods, corrosion control and prevention. Topics covered in section 2 include damage tolerance analysis based on fracture mechanics; basic failure modes; metal fatigue and critical loads of cracked structures. -- Course Website
