This unit provides an introduction to the practical application of techniques for creating product shapes. It investigates the aspects of manufacturing which are critical to competitive production. Topics include pattern making and foundry practices; machining, joining, forming, and NC machines; solid modelling with computer software; manufacturing of ceramics and polymers; linear and geometric tolerancing, measurement and inspection. In addition, the interrelationship between the properties of a material and how it is processed is also discussed. -- Course Website
