This unit presents essential knowledge for any student wishing to have a career in continuum mechanics modelling. The material is also useful for students of pure mathematics, statistics, physics and engineering and is customised to the needs of individual students. The unit covers both analytic and numerical methods. Topics are selected from asymptotics, complex variable techniques and Fourier transforms, symmetry methods, classification of PDEs, well-set problems, variational methods, FFT, wavelet transforms, finite element and difference schemes for PDEs, available packages and more. -- Course Website
