This unit examines advanced topics in the analysis of meaning in natural language, developing students' understanding of current issues in semantics, pragmatics, the semantics/pragmatics interface and the role of the latter in semantic change. The unit also provides the opportunity for students to develop research skills in the fields of semantics and pragmatics and apply them to written and spoken data in English and/or other languages.
