This unit analyses and evaluates the principal legal means by which the media and communications sectors are regulated in Australia today. The first half of the unit focuses on the major common law means of control, namely the law of defamation and contempt. The second half examines the current statutory framework of regulation relating to the electronic and print media, and the telecommunications industry, including licensing, ownership and other regulatory constraints on the operation of means of mass communication. -- Course Website
