This unit explores, at a deeper conceptual level than the basic constitutional law units, a variety of current problems, High Court decisions and approaches to constitutional interpretation. Attention is given to contemporary topics in government and social policy which present particular challenges to the constitutional lawyer and to federal and state governments. The unit draws on comparisons with the United States and the United Kingdom regarding constitutional doctrine, thought and judicial method.

As one of the aims is to prepare graduates for professional practice in public law, some practical aspects of litigation are incorporated into the unit. -- Course Website
