This unit is an introduction to the principles of equity, which supplement and complement the common law. It begins with a description of equity, its development in the Courts of Chancery and its role today. The unit then examines a number of equitable doctrines including fiduciary relationships, breach of confidence, unconscionable bargains, illegitimate pressure, undue influence and estoppel, as well as equitable remedies. A key aim of the unit is to explore the relationship between the various equitable doctrines, as well as to locate those equitable doctrines and remedies within the wider legal landscape. -- Course Website
