The unit offers advanced specialised study of Italian language and culture, with special reference to aspects of the place of literary texts in the history and culture of Italy. Selected themes in the history of Italian language and culture are studied through examination of literary texts—prose, poetry and/or drama—from the fourteenth century to the present. The unit consolidates the language competencies of students in writing, reading, listening and speaking Italian. It develops advanced understanding of the interaction of language, culture and society in selected periods of Italian history, through applying theoretical approaches to texts in context. -- Course Website
