This unit offers specialised study of Italian language and culture, with special reference to aspects of the evolution of the Italian language and dialects and the place of language in the history and culture of Italy. Selected themes in the history of Italian language and culture are studied through examination of texts, of various kinds (written, audio-visual, sets of linguistic data). The unit consolidates the language competencies of students in writing, reading, listening and speaking.
