The practice of medicine and the administration of health care in the past two decades has been encroached on by the law. Not only has the control over medical practice become more complex, but the law now impinges on the day-to-day activities of all medical practitioners. Doctors are becoming involved in the legal processes as providers of necessary certification, as expert witnesses and as defendants. This unit provides an understanding of how the medical profession, and more particularly forensic pathology, helps the law and the Coroner to establish cause and, where required, blame in matters brought before the Coroner's Court.
