This unit provides an introduction to petroleum geology, covering the basic concepts of how, why and where petroleum accumulates, and what techniques and resources are employed to locate, drill for and produce petroleum resources. The unit focuses on the important North West Shelf petroleum province in Western Australia and comparisons with producing oil fields around the world. The unit is suitable for students with some previous geological background who want to learn more about petroleum systems, and provides a good base for students seeking further, more specific units in either petroleum geoscience or petroleum engineering. -- Course Website
