This unit focuses on finite element analysis of solids, structures and fluids. Finite element methods and solution procedures for linear and nonlinear analyses are presented using largely physical arguments. On completion of this unit students have a good understanding of the theory behind FE methods and they learn the proper use of FE methods for the solution of real engineering problems. They learn the proper use of ANSYS in order to select a FE, generate mesh for a range of applications and debug a solution. They identify whether a problem can be solved by FE modelling and appreciate the benefits and limitations of the FE methods. -- Course Website
